Lord of the Rings War in the North Legacy Edition

In an unannounced launch, publisher WB Games and developer Aspyr Media shadow-dropped The Lord of the Rings War in the North Legacy Edition today, August 11, 2026, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Originally developed by Snowblind Studios and released in 2011, the cult-classic action RPG returns with modern performance enhancements, including 4K resolution, 60+ FPS performance, character hot-swapping, and updated local split-screen and online co-op features. The game is currently available at a discounted introductory launch price of $17.99 before returning to its standard price of $19.99.

Upgraded Features and Performance Improvements

The re-release updates the 2011 third-person hack-and-slash RPG for modern hardware while maintaining the original dark, M-rated narrative that runs parallel to the events of JRR Tolkien’s main trilogy. Players control a custom Fellowship—Eradan the Ranger, Andriel the Elven Loremaster, and Farin the Dwarven Champion—as they battle Sauron’s lieutenant, Agandaûr, in the northern regions of Middle-earth.
